— Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is scheduled to speak Friday evening to members of the Arkansas Republican Party.

The Arkansas GOP is convening two days of meetings in Hot Springs. On the agenda Friday is a special nominating convention to fill a vacancy in a state Senate race, then Jindal will speak at the group's annual Reagan-Rockefeller Dinner.

The party's regular state convention will open Saturday morning to designate presidential electors and to pass a party platform.

The nominating convention for state Senate District 23 is necessary because the party's nominee died this month. Tommy Caubble suffered a heart attack while in his family's peach orchard.

Whoever is nominated Friday will challenge Democratic Rep. Jerry Brown, who also won his party's nomination without opposition. The seat is in eastern Arkansas.
