SUSAN ADAMS, 78, of Scott passed away Thursday, July 26,2012. She was a member of Pershing United Pentecostal Church, served as an Associate in Missions in Bolivia, South America and was a nurse for many years. She loved herchurch family and will be missed by many.

She is survived by her daughter, Regina Whittington and husband, Richard of Scott; grandchildren, Heather Edwards and Taryn Whittington both of Scott; two great-grandchildren, Cameron Fuller and Autumn Edwards; sister, Opal Ginn of Jackson, Mississippi; and brother, Boyce Gahagan of Humble, Texas. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Gahagan.

JAMES (JIM) EDWARD HARRIS, 64, of Little Rock, passed awayWednesday, July 25, 2012. Jim, son of the late Judge Oren and Ruth Ross Harris, was born in El Dorado, Arkansas, on December 8, 1947. Each year when Jim was a child, he attended elementary schools in both El Dorado and Washington, D.C., where his father served as a United States Congressman, representing the 4th Congressional District of Arkansas. Jim was Valedictorian of the 1965 graduating class of the Maret School, also located in the nation’s capital.

After high school, Jim attended Princeton University, graduating in 1969 as a Distinguished Military Graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (with computer science emphasis). In 1972, Jim received his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where he was a member of the Arkansas Law Review from 1970-1972. In 1975 he completed a Master of Laws Degree (L.L.M.) in Taxation from Boston University School of Law.From 1972 to 1976, Jim served as a Captain in the United States Air Force in the positions of Judge Advocate and Area Defense Counsel.

Jim joined the law firm of Friday, Eldredge & Clark in October of 1976. At the time of his death, he was the head of the firm’s Trust & Estates Practice Group and a member of the firm’s Management Committee. Jim represented family businesses, highnet-worth individuals, foundations, fiduciaries, hospitals, and corporations in estate planning, trust and taxation matters.

His numerous recognitions include being listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Trusts and Estates and for Nonprofits/ Charity Law and in Mid-South Super Lawyers. Jim was a Fellow in the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel and served as the Arkansas State Chair for the organization from 2001 to 2006.He was named by The Best Lawyers in America as the Little Rock Non-Profit/Charities Law Lawyer of the Year for 2012.

Jim was a member of the American, Arkansas and Pulaski County Bar Associations and of the Tax and Probate Sections of the American and Arkansas Bar Associations. He was a frequent speaker on topics pertaining to taxes, estate planning, trusts and estates, family partnerships, foundations, and charitable giving.

His associations and memberships included P.A.R.K. Foundation Board Member, 2007-Present; Baptist Health Board of Trustees, Chairman 2004-2005; American Red Cross, Chapter Chairman, Central Arkansas Chapter 1999-2001; Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Society; Rotary Club of Little Rock. Jim was a member of Second Baptist Church for 35 years, where he served in a variety of roles, including Deacon and belovedSunday School teacher.

Jim leaves behind a host of family members, colleagues, and friends who will mourn his loss and cherish their memories of his kind, generous, loving nature. Included are Cheryl Marstellar Harris, his wife of almost 41 years; his son, Jonathan Oren Harris, his wife Sara, and their two sons, Connor James and Aidan William, Nashville, Tenn.; his daughter, Catherine Michelle Hughes and her husband, Drew, Nashville, Tenn.; his sister, Carolyn McLeod, and her husband George, Little Rock, Ark.; his nephews Scott McLeod and Matt McLeod, along with their families, Little Rock, Ark.; his niece, Mary McLeod, Little Rock, Ark.; numerous cousins and friends, all greatly loved. He was the kindest and best of men, and he will be truly missed by all.

Visitation will be held at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Funeral Home, 5800 W. 12th Street, from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, Little Rock, Ark. ROBERT L. HIGDON, 77, of North Little Rock passed from this life on July 26, 2012. He was the son of the late Seab and Odie Higdon. Robert enjoyed many things in life including bowling, gardening, fishing, and camping with his family.

He is also preceded in deathby his loving wife of 45 years, Juanita Higdon; two brothers, Arlon and Bill Higdon of Wooster; and one sister, Martha Lean Higdon. Robert is survived by his loving sons,Phillip and Allen Woodham; daughter, Deborah Kolwyck, all of North Little Rock; one granddaughter, Nickie Woodham of Hot Springs; and many nieces and nephews he truly loved.

ONEDA FINCHER HOLDEN, 92, of Little Rock, formerly a longtime resident of Stephens, Ark., passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012. She was born on July 6, 1920 in Cheraw, Miss., the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Mary Davis Sartin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howell Fincher; and by her second husband, Lester Holden; two brothers, Davis and Jeff Sartin; and two sisters, Katherine Thompson and Sue Oliver. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Thelnita Fincher of West Monroe, La.; her daughter, Joan Butler of Little Rock; two sisters, June Parrish, her twin sister, Ouida Hubbard; and a brother, Grover Sartin. She is also survived by grandchildren, Angey (Kabe) Lyons, Tim (Nino) Fincher, Kevin Butler, Kraig (April) Butler, and great-grandchildren, Fletcher, Luke and Nate Lyons, Stephen and Phillip Fincher, Shelby and Hayden Butler, and many nieces and nephews. She was also greatly blessed to be a part of the family of her second husband, Lester Holden, and is survived by his children Darriel (Delbert) Scott, Carolyn Berry, Glen (Roseanna) Holden and Wayne Holden, their 11 children,five grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. She is forever in our hearts and will be greatly missed.

ENGLAND - Ruth N. “Mama C” Compton, 91, of England, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord July 26th, 2012. She was born in Tomberlin, Arkansas, on September 3rd, 1920 to Dowell V. Hallum and Annie Lyons Hallum.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of forty-six years: Reuben Compton; and six brothers. She’s survived by two sons: Don Compton and his wife Judy of England, Arkansas and Neil Compton and his wife Debbie of Coy, Arkansas; six grandchildren: Cristi Roulston and her husband R.D.; Adam Compton and his wife Jena all of North Little Rock, Arkansas; Amy Moss and her husband Logan of Little Rock, Arkansas; Alesha Harry and her husband Ross and Kara Taylor and her husband Brian all of Austin, Arkansas; Jeb Compton and his wife Austin of England, Arkansas; also nine greatgrandchildren.

Ruth graduated from England High School in 1938. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in England. She was the President and Life Member of Tomberlin, England and Lonoke PTA. UMW-Life Member, 1992 England Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year; a Charter Member of the Watch Me Shine at England Elementary School; Charter Member of the England AARP and the President in 1992; Order of the Eastern Star-Worthy Matron and the President of Women’s Golf Association at England Country Club.

HASKELL - Jr. Westbrook, 87, of Haskell, passed away July 26, 2012. He was born February 9, 1925 in Haskell to the late Dolph and Gertie Sims Westbrook. Jr. was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church and served in the Army during WWII.

SEARCY - Allen Brewer “Bengy” Sutton, 53, of Searcy,died Wednesday, July 25, 2012, in Searcy. He was born Nov. 29, 1958, in Little Rock, Ark., to Allen Ray Sutton and Joan Coffey Sutton. He was a trim carpenter and a member of theFirst Baptist Church of Floyd.

Survivors include his wife of 5 years, Monica Sutton; two sons, Nathan Sutton, John Farmer; seven daughters, Candice High and husband, Ricky, Jessica Thomas and husband, Charles, Jessica Ellis and husband, James, Jacqueline Farmer, Samantha Huskey and husband, Auborey, Megan Farmer, Jordan Sutton; three grandchildren, Landon Huskey, Isabella Ellis, Gavin Thomas; one sister, Debra Kale and husband, Edward; and former wife Wilma Sutton. SMACKOVER - James (Jim) Murray Tennyson, 83, died Sunday July 22, 2012. He was born February 4, 1929, in Smackover, Ark., to Leon Edwin and Marjorie Snider Tennyson. He grew up in Smackover and attended Smackover Public Schools.

Jim was a graduate of Kemper Military Academy and was also a graduate of Hendrix College in 1950 where he was a tailback and punter on the football team. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954 and was commissioned Second Lieutenant on May 10, 1952 (also his wedding date). He was a jet fighter pilot flying the F-84 Thunderjet while serving in the 307th Strategic Air Command, during which time he flew in the first mass night refueling mission attempted by the Air Force.

Jim was active in many civic, governmental and business affairs, including serving two terms as Chairman of the Arkansas State Police Commission. He also served 51 years on the Board of Directors of Smackover State Bank and was on the Board of Directors of the South Arkansas Medical Center.He was a member of the Republican National Committee and past member of the Smackover School Board and Lions Club. Jim was also Area Vice President for the Independent Petroleum Association.

Jim was a longtime member of First United Methodist in Smackover where he served on the Board of Trustees and Board of Stewards. He was a devoted Christian who truly reflected the Fruit of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather with a kind demeanor and a great sense of humor. Jim and his wife, Fran, loved traveling and playing golf together and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Ann Tennyson Matthews. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Frances Brewer Tennyson; three sons, Timothy A. Tennyson of Smackover, Ark., Charles L. (Chuck) Tennyson andhis wife, Carol, of Little Rock, Ark., James Drew Tennyson of El Dorado, Ark.; and four grandchildren, Clark Tennyson (Katie) of Hot Springs, Ark., Claire Tennyson also of Hot Springs, Joshua Tennyson of Little Rock, Ark., and Tess Tennyson of El Dorado, Ark.

Pallbearers will be Harvey Brown, Roland Ponthieux, Edwin Matthews, Clark Tennyson, Joshua Tennyson and Les Warren. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Smackover State Bank Board of Directors.

The funeral will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Smackover, Ark., on today at 10 a.m. Interment will be at the Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

STUTTGART - Sonya Endres Wiggins, 42, of Stuttgart died Wednesday, July 25, 2012, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Sonya was born April 4, 1970, in Little Rock to Roland and Lynette Rogers Endres. She was a 1988 graduate of Stuttgart High School and attended the University of Central Arkansas and Southwest Baptist University. She was a licensed practical nurse, a certified surgical technician and former emergency medical technician. She was a member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church before moving her membership to Cherokee Village United Methodist Church.

Survivors are her children: son, Weston Jines, and twin daughters, Macy and Marly Jines of Ash Flat, Ark.; her parents,Roland and Lynette Endres of Stuttgart; brother, Scott Endres of Stuttgart; niece, Ashley Endres of Stuttgart; and nephew, Hunter Endres of Stuttgart.

Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Clefton Vaughan, are 1 p.m., Monday at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church with burial following at Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Turpin Funeral Home.

SMITHVILLE, Okla. - George Alfred Toon, age 95, of Smithville, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in Muskogee. Graveside services will be Saturday, July 28, at 10 a.m. at Watson Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood funeral Home.
