Wally OK

The costume of the Boston Red Sox mascot, Wally the Green Monster, was recovered Friday afternoon after a brief search.

Boston police said what was originally described as a theft appeared to be a misunderstanding.

“No arrests. Happy ending,” Boston police spokesman Cheryl Fiandaca said.

A Red Sox spokesman told The Boston Globe that a team employee was scheduled to take the Wally costume this weekend and “spread some good cheer” around the city by wearing it.

A security officer at Fenway Park reported the theft at 2:22 p.m. Eastern. Police believed the thief was wearing the costume.

Shortly before 4 p.m., police tweeted that Wally was found.

The team employee who took the costume didn’t tell a supervisor.

No one was arrested.

The mascot debuted in 1997 and is a familiar figure at Fenway Park. Wally’s official website lists his height as “pretty big” and his weight as “doesn’t like to say.”

Fiandaca said a couple of units responded to the theft and several fans had called for sending out the Massachusetts State Police air wing and closing all the bridges to the city.

“We would like to report that Kenny Britt has made it 24 hours without being arrested,” Gorman wrote on Facebook. “The Britt Index [TDs to Arrests] remains at 15:8. Congratulations, Kenny.” Uni watch

Arkansas Razorbacks fans aren’t the only ones enduring an alternate uniform design this off season.

Nebraska’s alternate uniform, complete with a black helmet, was unveiled Friday.

Adidas AG posted a video of the uniform on YouTube.

Nebraska Coach Bo Pelini confirmed Friday the video showed the uniforms the Cornhuskers would wear for the Sept. 29 home game against Wisconsin.

The Huskers have long been known for their home red jerseys, white pants and white helmet with the block “N.”

They will wear red pants and red jerseys against the Badgers.

A big black block “N” will be on the front of the jerseys, with smaller black numbers over the left breast. “Huskers” will be written across the back rather than players’ last names.

The team’s defining red “N” remains but is stamped on a black helmet.

“Thinking of taking a mini baseball bat to shields knee so he won’t get traded...don’t tell anyone it was me if he goes down later today,” Price tweeted Friday.
