— More than three times the expected number of wizards showed up July 19 at the Main Library of the Central Arkansas Library System in Little Rock.

About 200 young guests were expected at the inaugural Harry Potter Party - but more than 700 showed up.

The kids, many dressed in costumes, were sorted into one of Hogwarts’ four houses and were given a Marauder’s Map leading to activities on all five floors of the library.

The Harry Potter wannabes mixed magic potions, waved wands, showed off their temporary scars and made Harry Potter glasses. They competed in trivia games, wizard duels, wizard’s chess and watched local colleges’ quidditch teams compete. Refreshments included butterbeer and Bertie Bott’s Every-Flavor Beans.

The party was held in conjunction with the exhibit “Welcome to Harry Potter’s World: Renaissance Science, Magic and Medicine,” which will be on display through Aug. 11.
