Malzahn mum on Dyer exit

— Arkansas State coach Gus Malzahn didn't say much Monday afternoon regarding the dismissal of former running back Michael Dyer.

The first-year head coach met with the media prior to the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame dinner at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock, his first public appearance since the announcement of Dyer's ouster.

Over the three-plus minute interview, Malzahn repeatedly upended any questions concerning Dyer, stating that he was "not going to answer any questions regarding team dismissal."

The university announced in a press release Sunday evening that Dyer was dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules. The release also stated that the university would have no further comment on the situation.

On March 10, Dyer was pulled over for speeding in White County. The Arkansas State Trooper on the scene discovered a gun and marijuana in the car, although Dyer was cited for speeding only. An investigation was launched into the troopers' handling of the situation.

Recently, the NCAA denied Dyer's request for a waiver to play immediately for ASU, which would've forced him to redshirt the 2012 season.

Dyer, a former Little Rock Christian running back, transferred into the Red Wolves program after two seasons at Auburn where he rushed for a combined 2,335 yards and 15 touchdowns while helping the Tigers to the 2010 BCS National Championship and being named the game MVP in the process. He earned first-team all-SEC honors prior to last season. Dyer was suspended prior the Tigers' 2011 Chick-Fil-A Bowl appearance.

Malzahn was Dyer's offensive coordinator at Auburn.
