Officials: Funds available for recreational trails in Arkansas

The Arkansas State Highway Commission has announced available federal funds for recreational trail development in Arkansas.

Officials say the funds were appropriated by Congress to build and maintain motorized, non-motorized and multiple use recreational trails.

Among those eligible to apply for the funds are cities; counties; state and federal government agencies and not-for-profit agencies.

Officials say the funds will be available to successful applicants on a matching basis. Eighty percent a project’s cost will come from the federal funds allocated to the state and the remaining 20 percent will come from the project’s sponsor.

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department must receive the applications by Aug. 1.
