Petrino gets $1.7 million for Fayetteville mansion, a $550,000 loss

— Former Arkansas Razorbacks head football Coach Bobby Petrino sold his house in Fayetteville for $1.7 million, according to a warranty deed filed Monday at the Washington County Courthouse.

That’s $550,000 less than he paid for the six-bedroom, 8,741-square-foot mansion he bought in 2008 and $800,000 less than the original asking price for the house.

The sale comes about a month after Petrino sold his house on Beaver Lake for $600,000, which is what he paid for it in 2008, according to property records.

Since his dismissal as head coach April 10, Petrino has been ridding himself of Razorbacks-related items and Arkansas real estate.

He donated 31 golf clubs to the Goodwill store in Springdale. Those clubs, in two separate bags, fetched $1,400 in a two-week auction that ended Monday. The same bidder bought both bags and all of the clubs, said Rose Barry, manager of the store.

The money will go to Goodwill job centers, where people are trained to use computers and take classes to earn their General Educational Development diplomas, Barry said.

Eleven more items that belonged to Petrino went up for auction at the store Tuesday. They include a Razorbacks jacket and shirt, five Atlanta Falcons jackets and two items from Petrino’s time as head coach of the University of Louisville. All are size large.

The starting bid on each item is $10, except for a twopiece Louisville Cardinals sweatsuit with a required first bid of $15, Barry said. The items can be viewed at the store at 3157 W. Sunset Ave., and bids can be placed by telephone at (479) 927-2023. The auction will end July 3. The items aren’t posted on the Goodwill website like the auction for the golf clubs.

The mansion Petrino and his wife, Rebecca Petrino, owned at 4518 E. Bridgewater Lane was appraised for $1.63 million in 2010, according to the Washington County assessor’s office. It was purchased by Gary D. and Janet D. Anderson. The Petrinos signed the warranty deed Friday.

On May 15, the Petrinos sold the 2,532-square-foot house on Beaver Lake to Duncan and Cynthia MacNaughton of Rogers for $600,000, according to arcountydata. com.

The 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle Petrino wrecked April 1 in rural Madison County has been sitting on a lot at Copart in Prairie Grove. It was still there when a reporter checked earlier this month, but it’s not currently for sale and employees of Copart wouldn’t give details when contacted Tuesday. The vehicle identification number of the motorcycle on the Copart lot matches the one on an Arkansas State Police report for Petrino’s motorcycle that was involved in the wreck.

The motorcycle, a Road King, was previously for sale through Copart’s online auction site.

That wreck, and the subsequent police report, led to Petrino’s firing. The report revealed that Petrino, 51, had a passenger on the motorcycle, Jessica Dorrell, 25, of Elkins, when it ran off Arkansas 16 near Elkins and crashed.

After the release of the report, Petrino admitted his extramarital affair with Dorrell, whom he hired to work in the University of Arkansas athletic department. Athletic Director Jeff Long fired Petrino, saying the hiring of Dorrell was a conflict of interest and that Petrino hadn’t been honest with him in the days after the accident.

Barry said the Goodwill store has one more Petrino item that will go up for auction after July 3. It’s a red and white Louisville Cardinals jersey with “4” on the front and “Petrino” across the back. It also says “Liberty Bowl” on the side.

The Cardinals beat Boise State 44-40 in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis on Dec. 31, 2004. Petrino was head coach at Louisville from 2003 to 2006.

He coached the Atlanta Falcons NFL team in 2007. He joined the Razorbacks as head coach in 2008.
