Today marks the 15-year anniversary of one of the biggest tornado outbreaks in Arkansas history.

The National Weather Service confirmed 16 tornadoes in the state on Saturday, March 1, 1997.

They carved a deadly path up Interstate 30, laying waste to downtown Arkadelphia. The storms devastated Shannon Hills and College Station in central Arkansas before heading northeast, hitting White and Jackson counties as well.

Twenty-five people were killed across the state.

It came to be known as the Interstate 30 Supercell.
