Allens Inc. selling four of six vegetable operations

Allens Inc., a Siloam Springs-based company, said Friday it will sell four of its six frozen vegetable operations to The Bonduelle Group.

Allens said it will sell plants in Bergen, N.Y., Oakfield, N.Y., Brockport, N.Y., and Fairwater, Wis. The plants employ approximately 400.

The terms of the deal were not released.

Allens said in the release the move will allow it to focus on canned and Southern-style frozen vegetables. With the sale, Allens will still maintain a total of six manufacturing plants in Arkansas, Georgia, North Carolina and Wisconsin.

The Montreal-based Bonduelle Group is the world leader in prepared vegetables, according to a company release.

In September, Seneca Foods Corp. of Marion, N.Y., and Allens said they terminated negotiations to merge the companies, which they previously announced in July.
