Parkview girls take 6A title, push past Russellville

— Little Rock Parkview withstood an early charge from Russellville, got the pace they wanted, and pulled away for a 50-31 victory over the Lady Cyclones to earn the 2012 Class 6A state girls' basketball title.

After being held to 18.2-percent shooting the first half, Little Rock Parkview shot 53.8-percent in the second half to pull away from Russellville 50-31 and win the Class 6A girls' state basketball championship. Erin Peoples was named MVP with 20 points and eight rebounds in the game,

Russellville (22-8) got the game down to a slower pace in the first half, dictating the speed by using deliberate half-court sets to stifle the Lady Patriots (29-2) into 18.2-percent shooting in the first half and hitting 33.2-percent of their own shots in the first two quarters.

It didn't last. Parkview pushed their lead further and further in the fourth quarter, finishing with the 19-point advantage. The Lady Patriots shot 53.8-percent in the second half.

Erin Peoples was named MVP of the 6A girls tournament, finishing with 20 points and eight rebounds.
