Wonderview grabs first state girls basketball title

— Wonderview took early advantage of some Kingston mistakes and held on for the Class 1A girls state title game 44-33.

Wonderview shot 53.3-percent from three-point range and held off Kingston to grab their first-ever girls' state basketball title in the school's history. Laken Ward was named MVP after a 10-point, eight rebound performance.

The Lady Daredevils (38-6) held the Lady Yellowjackets (33-7) to 28.6-percent shooting in the first half (6-for-21) and finished the first two quarters hitting 7-of-14 shots for a 25-16 halftime lead.

Wonderview held off a late light run from Kingston and captured the crown, holding the ball in the final minutes and getting their points at the free throw line.

Laken Ward was named MVP of the 1A tournament, finishing the contest with 10 points and eight rebounds. Courtney Davidson led the Lady Yellowjackets with 15.
