2 at Mount St. Mary terminated after accusation

Preliminary results of investigation led to termination

— Two employees of Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock have been terminated as a result of a sexual abuse investigation, according to a statement released by the school.

Sarah Johnson, director of communications for the all-girl high school, confirmed Wednesday that the employees were placed on leave earlier this week pending an investigation by the Little Rock police department.

Lt. Terry Hastings released an incident report Wednesday stating that a female victim, a former student who remains unidentified, told her parents she had been involved in a relationship with Kelly O'Rourke, 40, from August 2010 through February.

Mount St. Mary principal Diane Wolfe was contacted and then notified the administration and the child abuse hotline, according to the report. O'Rourke, a math teacher and volleyball coach, was placed on leave Sunday and another employee, Kathy Griffin, 54, was placed on leave Monday.

In a statement released by the school Wednesday afternoon, both O'Rourke and Griffin were terminated as a result of the investigation. O'Rourke was terminated for violating the school's policy "governing conduct of faculty and staff." Griffin was terminated as a result of the school's internal investigation for "failure to adhere to state-mandated reporting requirements," according to the statement.

Hastings said Wednesday that Griffin, who was the school's athletic director and a ninth-grade counselor, is not a suspect in the police investigation.
