Hodgson crowned Miss Arkansas Tech University 2012Published March 15, 2012 at 3:41 a.m.
RUSSELLVILLE Claire Hodgson of Russellville was crowned the 57th Miss Tech during the 2012 Miss Arkansas Tech University Scholarship Pageant at Witherspoon Auditorium on Feb. 24.
Hodgson, the daughter of Mario Hodgson and Cathy Baker, won the CenturyLink InterviewAward. She sang “Feeling Good” for the talent competition.
“Utter shock,” Hodgson said when asked for her initial reaction to the announcement. “I’ve never competed in a pageant before. It was one of those ‘why not?’ things. I wanted to try it because it was outside my comfort zone. It doesn’t seem real.”
Hodgson is a freshman premed biology major. Her critical issue is “Choosing Inner Beauty: Looking Beyond the Media’s Standards.” She was sponsored by Azzore Animal Clinic of Russellville.
Kristen Glover, Miss Arkansas 2011, presented Hodgson with her crown. Jim Collins, executivedirector and master of ceremonies for the Miss Tech Pageant, made the announcement.
Hodgson will receive a twosemester tuition scholarship at Arkansas Tech and more than $3,000 in gift certificates from area businesses.
In all, more than $18,000 in gifts and scholarships wereawarded during the pageant.
Hodgson will represent Arkansas Tech in the 2012 Miss Arkansas Pageant on July 8-14 in Hot Springs.
Other Miss Tech Pageant contestants from the River Valley & Ozark Edition coverage area were Danielle Lee of Hector and Emily Ann Patton of Danville.
