Clarksville shooting suspect arrested

Shooting killed one man, wounded an officer

— Police have arrested a Clarksville man for a shooting that left one man dead and injured a Clarksville police officer.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a news release that 26-year-old Benjamin Schweitzer of Clarksville was charged with criminal homicide and may face additional charges in the shooting Thursday in a residential neighborhood.

Authorities said police found a man with fatal injuries on a porch and followed a blood trail to a nearby home, where Schweitzer was locked in a bedroom. Police said Schweitzer shot at the officers and wounded one before he surrendered to police.

The Leaf-Chronicle obtained a warrant that identified the police officer as Officer James Eure and the victim as Frederick Nicholas Moses.

The newspaper reported both the suspect and the victim were soldiers.
