Embattled UAPB chancellor stepping down

The chancellor at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff announced Thursday that he was resigning.

In an email sent campus-wide, 74-year-old Lawrence A. Davis Jr. said he would step down effective May 25.

Davis has come under fire after an audit of the Harrold Complex student dormitories found issues involving payroll and purchasing controls.

The Arkansas State Police is investigating more than $700,000 in spending.

That audit, which detailed activities between 2008 and 2010, led to the firing of four UAPB employees earlier this year.
