LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has again rejected the wording of a proposed constitutional amendment that would require Arkansas citizens to vote on any new tax increase.
McDaniel’s opinion issued Thursday says the proposed amendment’s popular name and ballot title includes ambiguities. This is the fourth time since December that McDaniel has rejected the popular name and ballot title of the proposal.
The ballot proposal was developed by a group calling itself the Voter Approval Committee Inc. Former Republican state Rep. Mark Riable sought the attorney general’s opinion for the group.
The measure would require a vote of the people for any tax increase at the state, county or city level.
To get on the 2012 ballot, the group would need about 78,000 signatures after the measure’s wording is approved.
