— Mississippi State scored two runs in each of the first four innings and the Bulldogs upset No. 3 Arkansas 11-2 on Friday night at Dudy Noble Field.

Bulldogs starter Chris Stratton threw seven innings and struck out nine Razorbacks to improve to 5-0 on the mound. Stratton had recorded 17 strikeouts one week earlier in a no-decision at LSU.

Mississippi State (18-9, 2-2 SEC) took the lead on Hunter Renfroe's inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the first inning. Renfroe's hit went off the center field wall, where Arkansas outfielder Jacob Morris was unable to make the play and ran into the wall.

The Bulldogs added two more in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead on a pair of RBIs from Demarcus Henderson and Adam Frazier.

Arkansas (20-3, 3-1) pulled within 4-1 on a Tim Carver RBI in the top of the third inning, but Renfroe added a two-run home run in the bottom half of the inning to extend the Bulldogs' lead to 6-1.

Renfroe, who finished the game 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs, had not hit a home run prior to Friday.

Mississippi State handed Arkansas starter DJ Baxendale his first loss of the season. Baxendale left with no outs in the fourth inning after allowing eight runs on nine hits.

The loss snapped a 10-game win streak for the Razorbacks, which swept their conference opener last week against Alabama.

The two teams will play again Saturday in the second game of the series at 2 p.m.
