The movie series is based on the books that take place in a futuristic time in a country called Panem, where North America once existed. In the story, The Hunger Games are a once-a-year contest where one boy and girl, ages 12 to 18, are selected from each district in the country to compete in the event and only one can survive.

Fans of all ages came to the Rave Theater to catch the first few showings at 12:01 a.m. and 12:31 a.m. Friday morning. Some came just to see the picture, while others donned costumes and custom-made shirts in celebration for the movie.

Though fans had varying reasons for getting involved in the series and pledged allegiances to different characters, one thing that all fans agreed on was that accuracy to the book was as important a factor as any going into the show.

Critics and various publications expect the movie to top the box office sales charts after the first weekend.
