LITTLE ROCK — 100 YEARS AGO March 23, 1912
A petition has been prepared by a local attorney, which will be circulated throughout Argenta within a few days petitioning Earle W. Hodges, secretary of state, to place upon the ballot for the general election to be held in Argenta on September 3 next, a measure permitting the playing of baseball and operating of theaters upon any day of the week within the limits of the city of Argenta. In order to be placed upon the ballot, it will be necessary for the petition to contain the signatures of eight per cent of the duly qualified electors of Argenta.

Secretary of State Nancy Hall said yesterday she has received nothing but praise for her stand on the Easter sunrise service at the State Capitol. Mrs. Hall said last week she would not allow Negroes to participate in the service - if one is held. She said Negroes have been and will continue to be welcome at the service. Sponsor of the service is the interdenominational and inter-racial Directors of Religious Education of Little Rock. The sponsors have not decided yetwhether or not there will be a service. Mrs. Hall said the group asked her to let Negroes take part in the Capitol service but she said she was afraid of a racial incident.

A litter cleanup program for Southwest Little Rock that will enable teen-agers to work off traffic fines will kick off April 11 at Geyer Springs Road with about a dozen teens on detail, Little Rock Traffic Judge Bill Watt said. Watt and city director Sharon Priest of Southwest Little Rock pooled ideas in February to create the innovative program. Other groups are assisting the effort, which was recently dubbed Operation Litter Patrol by the Little Rock City Beautiful Commission.

In a joint venture, Saline County and Pulaski Technical College officials announced plans for a noncommercial airport and a two-year branch campus Friday. The airport will sit on 1,080 acres and be Arkansas’ 86th general aviation airport for aircraft such as charter and private planes.
