Benton AGFC project gets funding

— A project consisting of two archery ranges, a fishing pier and restrooms at a municipal pond in the city of Bryant is among eight such outdoor recreational facilities that will be constructed with $500,000 in funds approved for that use at a recent meeting of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

The projects are in cooperation with the Arkansas Department of Rural Services and are a result of action taken in the 2011 session of the Arkansas General Assembly. All of the facilities will be open to public use when completed.

The estimated cost of the Bryant project, with some funding coming from other sources, is $43,200.

Included in the detailed agreement between the AGFC and city or county participants in each of the projects is the AGFC’s long-standing mission statement: “To wisely manage all the fish and wildlife resources of the state of Arkansas while providing maximum enjoyment for the people.”

The money for the AGFC’s portion of the projects will come from its natural-gas-leasing bonuses.
