Diabetes Alert Day offers food, fun, free screenings

— Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, in partnership with its Outpatient Therapy Center, will hold a Diabetes Alert Day on Tuesday in the hospital annex.

The diabetes awareness event will feature a presentation by Dr. Ken Turner, free blood-glucose screenings, an exercise demonstration and a healthy lunch.

Blood-glucose screenings will be offered from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Annex A, free to the first 100 participants.

Speaker presentations andthe luncheon will begin at noon in Annex B. Lunch will cost $5, payable at the door.

Seating is limited, and reservations are recommended.

Turner is a board-certified family physician who has practiced medicine for 22 years at the Russellville Family Clinic.

He will present “Diabetes and How to Make the Most of It.”

Theresa Motley, a certified fitness specialist with Saint Mary’s Wellness Fitness Center, has lived with Type 1 diabetes for 21 years.

She will share her story of living well with diabetes and will demonstrate some exercise techniques.

Melanie Mullinax, a registered nurse and certified diabetes educator, will present information on Saint Mary’s Outpatient Therapy Center’s comprehensive diabetes selfmanagement program and support groups.

These programs offer education to those with diabetes on how to best manage living with the disease.
