— 100 YEARS AGO March 25, 1912

A break in diplomatic relations between the United States government and the city administration is threatened daily at the city hall, owing to the fact that City Attorney Harry Hale and Fred Isgrig, secretary to Mayor Taylor, give a free performance every afternoon in the corridors on the second floor, testing their voices to high G. The United States engineers, whose office is across the hall, are of the opinion that neither of these officials can carry a tune around the corner, and these remarks have led to a heated argument. Chief Fred Cogswell, when applied to, agreed with the engineers, and threatened to enforce strictly the ordinance against a free grand opera in the city hall.

50 YEARS AGO March 25, 1962

Larry Kowalski is a junior fire marshal at St. Edwards school. The 12-year-old boy knows his duty and does it. He spotted a house on fire at 209 E. 25th about 4:24 p.m. yesterday. Running to a fire alarm box at 24th and Scott, Larry summoned the fire department. When they arrived, Larry was busy with a garden hose, spraying the house. The professionals took over andquickly extinguished the blaze. Firemen reported there was only slight damage to the building - a one-story dog house.

25 YEARS AGO March 25, 1987

Plans by Otter Creek Academy Inc. to start its own school will be suspended tonight because “the overwhelming majority” of parents are happy with new student assignments released last week, said Carl Moody, board president. Plans to start the private academy in predominantly white Otter Creek were made two months ago in reaction to pending school reassignments in the Little Rock and Pulaski County school districts, Moody said.

10 YEARS AGO March 25, 2002

If all goes as expected, U.S. District Judge G. Thomas Eisele will be assigned this week the voluminous MDL 1308 case file that Judge Henry Woods had hoped to close before his death. The case includes nearly all the litigation arising from the crash of American Airlines Flight 1420 in Little Rock on June 1, 1999. Ten passengers and the pilot were killed, and most of the 129 survivors were injured.
