Police officer wounded during standoff near UA

A Fayetteville police officer suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg during a standoff Saturday night in Fayetteville, according to Sgt. Craig Stout, public information with the Fayetteville Police Department.

Stout said officers with the University of Arkansas Police Department had attempted to stop a man, who fled in his vehicle to an apartment complex.

The man brandished a weapon when officers approached the apartment, Stout said, then went back inside, stepped out again and began firing at officers, striking one.

Officers returned fire and the man ducked back inside the apartment.

Police were able to make contact with the man, who stepped outside the apartment again, this time unarmed, Stout said.

Officers were able to use a Tazer on the man and take him into custody, Stout said.
