Arkansas State ends competition at LSU Relays

Arkansas State finished its first outdoor meet of the season Saturday at the LSU Relays in Baton Rouge.

Chelsea Weaver finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11 minutes, 18.83 seconds. The women’s distance medley relay team of Sam Salinas, Jamie Curry, Tilda Helgesson and Kristina Aubert finished second in 12:20.42.

Julia Agawu was third in the women’s discus with a throw of 157 feet, 2.61 inches. Solomon Williams was fourth in the triple jump at 49-6.48.

SOFTBALL Arkansas loses at home

Arkansas (18-11, 2-8) lost to No. 4 Florida 3-2 Saturday at Bogle Park in Fayetteville.

Amanda Geile hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Hope McLemore, and Andrea Sullivan was walked with the bases loaded for a 2-0 Razorbacks lead in the third inning.

Florida responded with a home run, two doubles and an Arkansas error in the fifth that made it 3-2.

UCA sweeps Sam Houston State

Central Arkansas (24-10, 4-0) completed the series sweep of Sam Houston State on Saturday with a 6-0 victory in Conway.

UCA took a lead in the first inning when Melanie Bryant reached after being hit by a pitch and scored after Sam Houston State starter Shelby Lancaster allowed three consecutive walks.

Taylor Dear had a home run in the second and Katie McGregor added an RBI single. Nicole Beals hit a sacrifice fly and Tiffany Roby finished the scoring with an RBI in the sixth.

BASEBALL Williams Baptist splits on road

Williams Baptist (10-21) beat Benedictine University 7-5 in the opener of a doubleheader Saturday in Springfield, Ill., but lost 7-1 in the late game.

Drew Tullos was the winning pitcher of the opener, working 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Freshman outfielder Ivan Tate was 2 of 2 with 2 runs scored.

Alex Markum took the loss in the second game after allowing four earned runs in 3 1/3 innings.

Tate was 2 for 3 with 1 run scored in the second game.
