3 road accidents claim 4 lives in state

— A man and a teenager who were run over by a tractor-trailer on a highway east of Lake Village early Sunday were among four people killed in weekend accidents in Chicot, Columbia and Independence counties, the Arkansas State Police reported.

Robert Christopher, 22, and Joshua Brooks, 16, both of Oak Grove, La., were fighting in the road on Arkansas 82 in Chicot County when they were run over by the eastbound tractor-trailer at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a state police report.

The tractor-trailer’s driver, Donald Ray, 52, of Celeste, Texas, was not injured, the report says.

On the same highway, east of Buckner in Columbia County, Rodrick Sterling, 32, of Stamps was killed in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer at 7:20 a.m. Saturday, according to a state police report.

Sterling was headed west in a Jeep when he crossed the center line and struck the eastbound tractor-trailer, the report says.

The tractor-trailer driver, Paul Sampson Jr., 45, of Houston, Texas, was taken to Magnolia Regional Medical Center, the report says. A hospital spokesman declined to provide information about his condition Sunday.

Just south of Batesville in Independence County, Joseph Huss, 41, of Batesville was killed after he crashed a motorcycle on U.S. 167 at 4:50 p.m. Saturday, according to a state police report.

Huss was headed south when he went off the road, struck a concrete divider and flipped, the report says.
