Firefighters save 2 stranded teens

— Firefighters on Sunday rescued two teenagers who became stranded while attempting to go over the Lake Maumelle spillway in a rubber boat, a spokesman for the Pulaski County sheriff’s office said.

Rescue workers were called to the lake about 4 p.m., after the boat became stuck while the boys were attempting to go over the spillway, Lt. Carl Minden said. Firefighters with the West Pulaski and Lake Maumelle fire departments gave the boys life jackets and a rope to secure the boat until the Little Rock Fire Department’s swift water rescue unit arrived. Little Rock firefighters then used ropes to pull the boat to shore.

The boys, whose names weren’t released Sunday, were taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Minden said.

An Arkansas Game and Fish officer told deputies that the boys, along with a third boy who was at the lake to videotape the other two, would face charges related to boating in the prohibited area, Minden said.
