Woman, 60, injured in fall from Boston Mountain bluff

— A 60-year-old woman is in critical condition after tumbling about 20 feet from a bluff in the Boston Mountains of western Arkansas.

Officials say Lucy Thames was hiking with her husband and two grandchildren when the accident occurred Sunday afternoon in Crawford County. Emergency Management official Dennis Gilstrap told KHOG/KHBS-TV that the area is rugged and there’s a waterfall in the area where the accident occurred.

Search-and-rescue teams from Washington County helped Crawford County crews get Thames out and onto a medical helicopter that transported her to Saint Edward Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith.

The Boston Mountains are part of the Ozark Mountain range.

Washington County Emergency Management official John Luther urged people to look out for mud and terrain loosened by recent heavy rain.
