Closet talk

Four fashionable locals — a clothes designer, a hip-hop artist, a fashion blogger and a boutique owner — give us a peek at the five best things in their closets.

“I wear color a lot in my clothing, and then I mute it with a dark shoe. I wanted to start adding a pop of color with shoes.”

Closet of classics: Rapper Goines rocks the bowties, hats and pocket squares of yesteryear.
When rapper Andrew Goines isn’t recording rhymes solo or as half of the duo Suga City, he’s taking style tips from fashion magazines, top designers, and members of a local style collective, The @mbitious Kool, of which he is a contributor. Much of his bold, stylish flair comes from being able to pick up accessories like bowties, hats and pocket squares, which many men might consider to be outdated. But Goines knows how to keep classic style looking fresh and youthful.

From shoes to shirts to neckties, Goines collects as much Polo by Ralph Lauren as he can. This Polo shirt is one of many staples in his wardrobe.

Ranked and filed: Blogger Julie Wax’s closet is the picture of organization.
IHeartHeels blogger Julie Wax posts the latest in celebrity style and poses in self-styled outfits to inspire her followers. Her sophisticated style and love for heels are evident in her neatly arranged and color-coded walk-in closet. She admits that her zeal for heels goes far beyond the blog. She’s had to move dresses into her son’s closet to make room for her growing collection of cutting-edge pumps.

Work in progress: Fashion designer Ngozika O’keke adds her own creations to her walk-in closet.
Ngozika O’keke’s Little Rock apartment doubles as a workshop, her kitchen table covered in needles, thread and works in progress as she prepares to launch her spring clothing line April 21 at Ashley Yingling’s Love for Fashion at the Ford Theater in Conway. She uses every inch of her walk-in closet — even the walls, which are strung with necklaces — to easily display her shoes, clothes and jewelry. And she’ll be packing it all up this fall when she moves to Milan, Italy, to get her master’s degree in fashion management.

Couture collection: Scarlet boutique owner Jeanne Johansson has a closet full of high fashion.
Jeanne Johansson has got a degree in style — well, Apparel Studies — from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. After working in retail in college and studying fashion, she opened her own boutique, Scarlet, in 2007. Though she’s a self-proclaimed jeans-and-T-shirt kind of girl, her closet is brimming with high-fashion trends.
