March in support of Florida teen set for Texarkana

— A march will be held this week in Texarkana in honor of the Florida teenager who was shot and killed by a neighborhood watch captain.

The Greater Texarkana and Miller County branches of the NAACP are leading the march in support of Trayvon Martin. The teen was unarmed when he was fatally shot last month by George Zimmerman.

Zimmerman, who has not been arrested, says he shot Martin in self-defense.

Organizers tell the Texarkana Gazette that the march is meant to raise awareness and promote harmony so a similar incident doesn't happen in Texarkana.

The march is set for 5 p.m. Wednesday, beginning at the Bi-State Justice Building and ending at the downtown federal courthouse and post office.
