State rejects 2 bids for highway work

— Apparent low bids for two central Arkansas highway projects have been rejected, an Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department spokesman said Monday.

The department rejected a $493,467.75 bid from Redstone Construction Group Inc. of Little Rock to realign a curved section of Cantrell Road at the Union Pacific bridge near downtown Little Rock and a $10 million bid from Martin Marietta Materials Inc. of Hot Springs to resurface Interstate 30 from Sevier Street to U.S. 70 in Benton.

The department likely rejected the bids because they came in higher than engineers had estimated, said Randy Ort, an agency spokesman.

Officials will review the bids again and see whether they need to alter the bid specifications before re-advertising the projects “as soon as possible,” Ort said.
