State to sell coins, jewelry on eBay

— State Auditor Charlie Daniels will auction unclaimed property for seven days on eBay beginning Friday at 10 a.m.

This is the second eBay auction held by the office, auditor spokesman Janet Harris said. There were 26 items sold at the first auction for just under $6,700, Harris said.

The 33 lots to be auctioned include miscellaneous coins, costume jewelry, U.S. stamps and silver bars. Items can be viewed before Friday at picasaweb.google.com/108335352479393248209/EBay2.

Bidding will take place at myworld.ebay.com/ar.unclaimedproperty.

State law says safe deposit boxes are presumed to be abandoned if not claimed within five years. Arkansas Code Annotated 18-28-212 gives the auditor the authority to sell the contents of the boxes and hold the money in trust for the owner to claim. The right to claim abandoned property doesn’t end, the auditor has said.
