Trooper shot in traffic stop released from hospital

— An Arkansas State Police trooper who was shot during a traffic stop has been released from the hospital.

The Texarkana Gazette reports that Cpl. Pete Penney was released from a Hot Springs hospital Monday afternoon. Penney was injured after exchanging gunfire during a traffic stop Friday night in Hempstead County.

An affidavit says Penney pulled over Herman Lee White between Ozan and Nashville and the two exchanged gunfire.

White, who remains hospitalized, was arrested on a charge of battery in the first degree of a law enforcement officer.

Authorities say White has been moved to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, where he’s listed in stable condition. Authorities did not know whether he had an attorney.
