GADGETS & GIZMOS

— To test these Pyrex Measuring Spoons we didn’t dip or scoop or level or weigh. Well, eventually we did those things, but what we did first was toss them in a drawer full of other kitchen tools and forget about them.

The sturdy plastic spoons, with their wide, but shallow wells, nest together like most measuring spoons. But what makes these spoons special is how they nest. There’s no awkward “o-ring” and they don’t snap together. They’re magnetic. And we put those magnets to the test. After a month in the drawer (which houses other frequently used items such as a can opener, tongs, metal spatula and measuring cups) the spoons were still nestled snugly together. Even better, the magnets mean you’re not limited to storing your spoons in a drawer. Stick em’ on the refrigerator if you want. Or the hood vent, or any other metal surface in your kitchen.

As for the spoons’ measuring abilities, the tablespoons didn’t produce the same size tablespoon as our trusted inherited metal set, but curiously none of our four sets of spoons measures exactly the same. We love the shallow basin of the bowls, which allows for dipping into containers, but found the spoons to be a little too wide in some cases.

Dishwasher safe. Set includes 1 tablespoon, 1/2 tablespoon, 1 teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon and 1/4 teaspoon.
