Administrators in about 14 percent of Arkansas’ high schools now have to explain to their communities and state leaders why their students’ grade-point averages and college entrance exam scores don’t tell the same story. Forty-six of the state’s 320 high schools have the biggest problems with grade inflation, according to a study released by the state Department of Education on Wednesday. At least half of the students in those schools who had grade point averages of 3.0 or higher scored below 19 in math or English on the ACT Assessment in 2000-2001.
