Steam engine set to arrive in NLR

— Union Pacific’s vintage steam engine No. 844 is to arrive in North Little Rock at 1:45 p.m. Friday as part of celebrations marking the railroad’s 150th anniversary.

North Little Rock Mayor Patrick Hays is to ride No. 844 into the city and serve as an honorary engineer for its arrival at Union Pacific’s North Little Rock yard at 1000 Fourth St.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, the public will be able to get an up-close view of how crews operate trains by using locomotive simulators. Also, Union Pacific will have available information on rail safety, coloring books, special edition anniversary pennants and popcorn.
