Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program announces entertainers

— The Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Searcy High School Performing Arts Center.

The contestants will arrive in Searcy today. A welcome tea, sponsored by the program’s state committee, will be held at 4 p.m. today at the White County Courthouse in Searcy.

The contestants, their families, host families, the state committee, and other dignitaries will be honored at the tea.

Searcy Mayor David Morris will give a welcome on behalf of the city. White County Judge Michael Lincoln will welcome guests on behalf of the county, and state chairwoman Nancy Thompson on behalf of the state program.

During Saturday’s program, the contestants will present a talent presentation and compete in a fitness routine and a self-expression competition. Other entertainment will be 2010 Arkansas Junior Miss Kristyn Baker of Bentonville.Baker is a sophomore theater arts major at the University of Tulsa.

There will also be entertainment from Elizabeth and Victoria Taylor of Searcy, Irby Dance Studio, Evan Routt of Conway and Kennedy Holland of Greenwood.

The theme this year is “A Night at the Movies.” Harding University students and Searcy students will portray movie characters during one of the opening numbers. Bill Fuller from Memphis, Tenn .,formerly of Searcy, will entertain at the piano.

Tickets will be on sale at the door for $10 for adults and $8 for students.

Scholarships will be presented to the winners, and the winner of the state program will advance to the national competition in Mobile, Ala., in June.

Masters of ceremonies for the evening will be Gov. Mike Beebe and 1990 Arkansas Junior Miss Tiffeny Thompson Crow.
