Festival film celebrates Batesville ‘Mug Tree Lady’

— Ozark: A Celebration in Song, a film by Still on the Hill - a musical duo featuring Kelly Mulhollan and Donna Stjerna - will be screened at the Ozark Foothills Film-Fest at 6 p.m. Friday as part of the Variety Showcase in Independence Hall at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville.

The film includes interviews with Ozark legends, including “Mug Tree Lady” Clara Byler, a longtime Batesville resident.

The Variety Showcase also includes three “Ultra Shorts” by John X. Carey, a young Missouri native whose work has been shown at the fabled Cannes Film Festival. Also on the bill are previews of two Arkansas films currently in production. The films, Man Shot Dead by Taylor Feltner and 45RPM by Juli Jackson, were funded by grants from the Ozark Foothills FilmFest’s Indie Film Initiative, funded by Gov. Mike Beebe’s Cultural Regional Arts Grants program. Both filmmakers will attend to answer questions about their soon-to-be-released films. Carey, Byler and the Still on the Hill duo will also be present.

Admission to the screening is $5 for adults, $4 for students and senior adults, and $3 for members of the Foothills Film Society. Film Society memberships start at $25 and provide admission discounts, invitations to FilmFest evening receptions, and an Official FilmFest poster.
