LITTLE ROCK A train collided with a vehicle Thursday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. in southwest Little Rock at South University Avenue and Forbing Road.
According to Little Rock Police Department spokesman Lt. Terry Hastings, the driver of a red Dodge Stratus tried to go around the guard bars on the tracks as the train approached. The 73-car train was approaching at normal speed when it hit the rear of the vehicle, sending it spinning until it came to rest in a ditch.
The driver of the Stratus was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Authorities are recovering a black box from the train to learn more details about the incident.
We'll have more on this story as it develops.
