North Little Rock Fire Department Battalion Chief Al Cerrato said crews were called to 1404 Sycamore St. at 5:15 a.m., arriving to find flames coming from the rear windows and doors of the structure.

The cause of the blaze has not been determined, but Cerrato said an investigator is on scene combing the damage for clues.

No one was home when the fire started, officials said, adding only one half of the duplex was occupied.

The unit on the building's north side appeared to be a total loss. A broken-out window in the back revealed a charred, soggy interior with a large hole in the roof.

Police at 6:40 a.m. had Sycamore Street blocked between 14th and 15th Streets. There was no indication when it would reopen.
