Hearing for Conte murder trial dismissal rescheduled

— The hearing to dismiss the murder trial of Richard Conte has been continued until April 13 at 1 p.m., according to Faulkner County Prosecutor Cody Hiland.

Hiland said that the hearing was rescheduled because another prosecutor working the case could not attend the hearing.

Hiland charged Conte, 62, on Aug. 26 in the execution-style slayings of businessman Carter Elliott, 49, and Timothy Wayne Robertson, 25. The men, who were shot in the head, were found May 19, 2002, in Elliott’s home in Shady Valley, an upscale Conway neighborhood.

The charges came two days before Conte, a former emergency-room doctor, was to be released from a Nevada prison. He had served nine years of a 15-year sentence resulting from the kidnapping of his ex-wife, Lark Gathright-Elliott, who was also Elliott’s former wife.
