— Campus buildings named for 3 people

The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville has named three campus buildings for people, including two former chancellors.

The UA board of trustees approved the name changes at a meeting Friday in Little Rock.

The university’s engineering building will now be called the John A. White Jr. Engineering Hall in honor of the former chancellor, who led the campus from 1997 to 2008.

The Northwest Quad A dormitory building will now be known as the Willard B. Gatewood Jr. Hall for the former chancellor who led the campus in 1984 and 1985 and initiated the restoration of Old Main.

And the Northwest Quad’s dining hall will be called the Roberta Fulbright Dining Hall in honor of the mother of former UA President U.S. Sen. J. William Fulbright.

UALR gets OK to buy apartments

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock plans to buy the adjacent Coleman Place apartments for $14.7 million.

The UA board of trustees approved the purchase of the 132-unit complex and the bonds necessary to finance the purchase Friday.

UALR would like to acquire and manage the buildings because they are surrounded by other campus properties, Chancellor Joel Anderson said.

The property could house about 420 students, the board’s agenda item said.

De Queen college to buy FM station

Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas plans to purchase an FM radio station in De Queen from Edgewater Broadcasting Inc.

The UA board of trustees approved the $67,500 purchase of KBPU-FM for the expansion of the campus radio broadcast program Friday.

UA-Fayetteville bond issue OK’d

The University of Arkansas board of trustees on Friday approved the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville’s plans to issue $46.2 million in bonds to finance previously approved construction projects.

Those projects are:

The renovation of Hotz Hall, a former dormitory that will once again be used for student housing.

The purchase of a large building on North College Avenue to house some campus units.

The expansion of the Brough Commons.

The construction of a new student housing office.

The construction of Founders Hall.

The bonds will be repaid through auxiliary income, such as student housing fee revenue.
