The icon on the map indicates the location of the explosion that killed three oil workers in El Dorado. The explosion happened near the intersection of State Highway 335 and Mt. Holly Road when three employees with the Long Brothers Oil Company attempted to take apart an abandoned tank battery.

An explosion in El Dorado left three dead Monday afternoon.

According to Arkansas Department of Emergency Management spokesman Chad Stover, a group of workers from the Long Brothers Oil Company were taking apart a tank battery at an abandoned oil well when something caused oil vapors inside the tank to ignite, explode and kill all three workers.

Long Brothers Oil Company is based out of Norphlet. Stover said there were no other injuries. Officials aren't sure what ignited the vapors. The workers' names have not yet been released.

The oil field was located near Mt. Holly Road and State Highway 335.

Someone explain why our local paper in Eldorado has not reported any deaths?

Probably the same reason that two very violent vehicle accidents that happened Friday have not yet been reported: Oxygen deficiency.

Deludwig it could be because it happened this afternoon and the Eldo paper was published this morning hours before it happened

Thanks! My mistake. We're still thinking about the explosion at the chemical plant last week. Getting dangerous here. I will read the first sentence next time.

Probably iron sulfides. If the tank had been sealed up for a long time and air got inside, the iron sulfides oxidize and generate a lot of heat. Not uncommon for crude oil. Too bad for these guys. Pray for their families.
