— Bail was set at $500,000 on Monday for a man arrested in the shooting death of a Pope County man, the prosecutor said.

A.J. Cody, 26, of Perry County remained jailed Monday afternoon in the death Friday night of Lee Britton, 65, of London.

Pope County District Judge Don Bourne found probable cause to hold Cody on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated residential burglary, Prosecuting Attorney David Gibbons said.

The prosecutor’s office is still investigating the case and has not yet formally charged Cody, Gibbons said. Cody is set to appear in Pope County Circuit Court on July 16.

Gibbons said the prosecutor’s office has declined to charge a second person originally arrested in the shooting death.
