Four people including an officer were ultimately injured in the incident, which happened at 204 S. Thayer St., with two men dying later from their injuries.
A neighbor called the homeowner after seeing a black male jump over the fence at the house. The owner, who was not at home, called the police.
A responding officer noticed a black male heading south on Thayer Street when he arrived. The officer and the suspect, later identified as 19-year-old Charles Edward Murry Jr., of Little Rock, exchanged gunfire. Murry was shot and the officer suffered minor injuries apprehending him, Davis said.
Detectives and other responding officers entered the residence and found two white males, one inside the house and the other outside the house, who had also been shot.
Both white males were taken to St. Vincent, and one man died from his injuries. Murry was taken to UAMS Medical Center where he also died.
