Update: Suspect identified in Thayer Street shooting

Police responded to a suspected  burglary in progress and shots were fired this afternoon, Little Rock Police Department spokesman Sgt. Cassandra Davis said.

Three men are in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting at 204 Thayer St in Little Rock. According to officials on the scene, an officer responded to a report of a disturbance at the residence. Shortly after the officer arrived, he exchanged gunfire with a black male, hitting him. Other authorities arrived to find two white males shot inside the house.

Four people including an officer were ultimately injured in the incident, which happened at 204 S. Thayer St., with two men dying later from their injuries.

A neighbor called the homeowner after seeing a black male jump over the fence at the house. The owner, who was not at home, called the police.

A responding officer noticed a black male heading south on Thayer Street when he arrived. The officer and the suspect, later identified as 19-year-old Charles Edward Murry Jr., of Little Rock, exchanged gunfire. Murry was shot and the officer suffered minor injuries apprehending him, Davis said.

Detectives and other responding officers entered the residence and found two white males, one inside the house and the other outside the house, who had also been shot.

Both white males were taken to St. Vincent, and one man died from his injuries. Murry was taken to UAMS Medical Center where he also died.
