— One person was killed in a plane crash in Greene County, authorities said.

Greene County Coroner Dick Pace said a pilot died in the crash, which occurred late Wednesday morning in the rural community of Fontaine. He said he could not release the man's name.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford said that the two planes collided in mid-air around 11:35 a.m.

The Associated Press is reporting that one other man injured in the crash.

"We're still trying to figure out exactly what happened," Pace said. "We're waiting on the FAA to get here."

Arkansas State Police say they were notified at 11:49 a.m. of the crash a short time earlier.

Curtis Davenport, chief of the Greene County Rescue Squad, said by phone that the crash involved two planes colliding and then crashing into a rice field.

Davenport said he believed there was only one person in each plane. He said the Rescue Squad helped remove one of the patients from the wreckage. He said he could not provide any information about injuries.

Fontaine is located about 20 miles northwest of Jonesboro.

A message left for the Greene County sheriff was not immediately returned.
