Few problems at polling sites

Power failure, machine malfunction promptly fixed

— No major problems appeared to develop during Tuesday’s primary election, according to the secretary of state’s office, although a few Pulaski County voters had difficulties locating their polling sites.

Some voters in Pulaski County precinct 40 along the North Little Rock/Sherwood city limits were directed to the wrong polling location by voter ID cards that were sent in error in January, according to Kristi McKinnon, voter supervisor for the Pulaski County clerk’s office.

The error was corrected within the month, McKinnon said, and new cards were sent out, but not everyone made the switch.

“Just a few [voters] came in saying, ‘Hey, I got this [wrong] card,’ McKinnon said. “They knew right away” which polling location was the correct one.

Alex Reed, spokesman for Secretary of State Mark Martin, said there were no major voting problems Tuesday.

The power failed at a Lonoke County voting site anda voting machine malfunctioned in Drew County, he said.

“All simple,” Reed said of the two problems.

The power problem in Lonoke County was at a voting site near Furlow and the electricity was out for about 30 minutes.

“It’s working now,” Reed said early Tuesday afternoon after power had been restored.

The Drew County problem was alleviated when “we loaned a voting machine to get through it,” he said.
