Jacksonport State Park offering weekend activities

— Jacksonport State Park will offer the following free activities this weekend:

◊At 6:30 p.m. Friday, visitors can “Steamboat Captains” in the campground. A park interpreter in period costume will explore the life of steamboat captains and answer questions.

◊At 3:30 p.m. Saturday, “Language of the River” will be presented in the Picnic Area. Participants can learn where some unique and humorous phrases originated.

◊At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, “Steamboats of the White River” will be presented in the campground. Visitors can join a park interpreter and listen to the stories of the White River.

◊At 3:30 p.m. Sunday, “Land of the Lorax” will be presented in the picnic area. The Loraxwas written by Dr. Seuss in 1971 and cautions readers about hurting their own planet.

◊At 6:30 p.m. Sunday, visitors may join a park interpreter on a walk down the Tunstall River Trail to explore the plants and animals found along the way.

◊At 3:30 Monday, “Birds of Prey” will be presented inthe picnic area. Participants may discover some of the most magnificent birds in the world, many of which can be found in the Jacksonport area, and listen to some of their calls.
