HOPE — A man accused of shooting an Arkansas state trooper in Hempstead County is to undergo a mental evaluation.
Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton says 66-year-old Herman Lee White of Hope is to be examined on June 26.
Authorities allege White shot Cpl. Pete Penney during a traffic stop on March 23. Penney's wound from a single gunshot was not life-threatening.
The Texarkana Gazette reports White is being held in the state prison system on a probation violation. He is charged with first-degree battery of a law enforcement officer.
