Two in District 9 take judgeships

— A circuit judge and a former prosecutor have won the races for two district judge positions serving Faulkner and Van Buren counties.

David Reynolds, now a 20th Judicial District circuit judge, defeated Conway City Attorney Mike Murphy in the race for District 9, Position 1 judge.

Susan Weaver, a former deputy prosecutor, defeated Amy Brazil of Conway in the District 9, Position 2 race.

Brazil was appointed in 2010 to fill the vacancy created by the death of her uncle, Russell L. “Jack” Roberts, who then was district judge for Faulkner County.

When Reynolds and Weaver take office in January, Faulkner County will have two district judges instead of one, but their jurisdiction also will extend to Van Buren County.

Complete but unofficial vote totals in Faulkner and Van Buren counties: DISTRICT 9, POSITION 1 Reynolds. . . . . . . . . . . . . .6,546 Murphy . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .4,858 DISTRICT 9, POSITION 2 Weaver. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6,200 Brazil . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5,394

Reynolds, 57, of Conway has said he hopes to start a domestic-violence court in district court for both counties. He has been a circuit judge almost 23 years.

Weaver, 33, has a private law practice and has said that she will work to make sure people are treated fairly in court and that cases are “resolved as quickly as possible.” Weaver, who is from Clinton, now lives in Conway.
