CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Hooks used a nine-run third inning to break a 3-3 tie on their way to a 13-4 victory over the Arkansas Travelers on Thursday night at Whataburger Field.
The Hooks sent 12 batters to the plate in the third as Caleb McCurdy hit a grand slam, Jonathan Singleton recorded an RBI single and a two-run home run and Jose Martinez added a two-run double against Travelers starter Eddie McKiernan.
McKiernan (3-3) went 2 2/3 innings, allowing 12 runs, 9 earned, on 11 hits. He struck out three and walked one.
Arkansas took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Renny Osuna came home when Carlos Ramirez was hit by a pitch. But Corpus Christi scored three runs in the bottom of the inning for a 3-1 lead.
The Travs tied the game at 3-3 in the second thanks to Rian Kiniry’s RBI double and Osuna’s sacrifice fly.
Casey Haerther led the Travs offensively, going 3 for 5. Jimmy Swift went 2 for 3 with an RBI single.
Earlier Thursday, the Los Angeles Angels promoted Travs infielder/outfielder Adam Heether to Class AAA Salt Lake. Heether batted .207 with 2 home runs and 12 RBI in 40 games with Arkansas this season.
